Art Installation Draws Attention to Lost Japanese American History

AES's Vince Schleitwiler recently collaborated with filmmaker Rea Tajiri on a public art installation for the 25th anniversary celebration of the Asian Arts Initiative in Philadelphia.Titled Wataridori: Birds of Passage, the work calls attention to the forgotten history of Japanese American resettlement from US concentration camps during World War II. Schleitwiler's serial essay, "Apparitions of the Non-Alien: Philadelphia," was published in an accompanying brochure, and an extended version is appearing on the installation's website.
