On April 16, 2021, Linh Thủy Nguyễn (American Ethnic Studies) worked with the Southeast Asia Center, American Ethnic Studies, and the Simpson Center for the Humanities to host Celine Parreñas Shimizu (Professor and Director of the School of Cinema, San Francisco State University) for a talk titled, "The Power of Asian/American Cinema." The lecture, now on the Simpson Center YouTube channel, examines how new images of race, gender and sexuality in Asian/ American Cinema tackle immigration, intimacy, and inequality, undoing social and psychic harm.
