In early 2023, the Bruce Lee Foundation and Sounders FC teams developed a collaborative curriculum based on the key tenets of Bruce Lee. The curriculum was organized and guided by these tenets, each of which included a Bruce Lee quote for inspiration and discussion, a soccer activity inspired by the tenet, and an activity from the original Bruce Lee Camp curriculum adapted for the game of soccer.
In this, its first year, the curriculum was deployed at a camp, clinic and on matchday, for youth to experience the convergence of soccer, movement and art. At the camp at Van Asselt Elementary School, 50 local youth enjoyed a day of the curriculum, led by Sounders FC Brand Ambassador Brad Evans and Seattle martial arts practitioner Han Eckelberg. The following day, Sounders FC held a free two-hour clinic for youth at Hing Hay Park in the Chinatown-International District. At the Bruce Lee-themed match, we hosted a pre-match clinic at Lumen Field that included select tenets and associated soccer activities for fans to enjoy.
