Professor Rick Bonus returns as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Asian American Studies (JAAS) after serving in that capacity from 2018 to 2020. In its first issue for 2024, JAAS has lined up essays that ruminate on the spectacular performances of Filipino Rough Riders in Buffalo Bill's Wild West, the multiple meanings of Vietnamese refugee melancholia, the shifting patterns of Southeast Asian resettlement in Philadelphia, and the "elasticity of caste" in the Sikh diaspora. Also featured are reviews of works on queer forms of Asian American inscrutability, anticolonial solidarities, and political activism by immigrant youth. Catch the stunning image on its cover by muralist Jess X. Snow in collaboration with Gavriel Cutipa-Zorn, that explores transnational solidarities between Palestine and Central America. The issue, including past and future issues, can be viewed through Project Muse and/or by way of a subscription to JAAS, the official publication of the Association for Asian American Studies.
