Communities

One of the distinguishing features of the Department of American Ethnic Studies is the multifaceted engagement that our faculty and students sustain with relevant communities—civic, cultural, artistic, scholarly, and social-action oriented. At the national level, our faculty have occupied important leadership offices in various professional organizations. Locally, they have served, and continue to serve, in numerous boards and committees, thereby providing a vital bridge between the university and the extramural constituencies. Frequently, AES enters into partnerships with those community-based organizations to sponsor and organize artistic, cultural, and social awareness events that are mutually beneficial. In addition, these relationships provide an invaluable opportunity for us to place students in internships and community practicums that help them expand their awareness, acquire experience, and develop professional networks.
