Velma Veloria is a former Washington State Representative and has been a community organizer for more than 40 years now.  Among her many accomplishments was her sponsorship of House Bill 1175 that criminalizes human trafficking, making the State of Washington the first state to ever do so.  She is also the first Asian American woman and the first Filipina American elected to the Washington State Legislature.  She brings to this course her knowledge, expertise, and experience in dealing with issues of gender in politics, labor, community organizing, health, environmental justice, and education for the youth.
