Rea Tajiri: History and Memory

In a virtual event in November for South Side Projections in Chicago, AES’s Vince Schleitwiler and Temple University’s Rea Tajiri recently presented images of Japanese American resettlement in postwar Chicago from Chicago in Black and White, a rediscovered phototext manuscript by their father/grandfather, the noted photojournalist Vince Tajiri. Chelsea Foxwell of the University of Chicago moderated the discussion, which was preceded by a screening of Rea Tajiri’s classic personal documentary on Japanese American incarceration, History and Memory: For Akiko and Takashige.

Video of the presentation and discussion is available on South Side Projections’ YouTube channel, here. UW Libraries account holders can sign in to watch the documentary through Kanopy, here
