The Joff Hanauer Honors Professorship recognizes a faculty member whose research and teaching address issues pertinent to our civilization. This award inspires faculty to strengthen connections and explore complex questions with Honors undergraduates.

American Ethnic Studies associate professor, LaShawnDa Pittman, was recently awarded the Joff Hanauer Honors Professorship in Western Civilization as a result of her commitment to student mentorship, education, and community-based research. Pittman is dedicated to helping her students connect with a variety of perspectives, including visits with policymakers and tackling issues that matter to students, like education and healthcare.

Pittman's first Hanauer-supported course, Honors 231 C: "Western Civilization" and Global Public Policy is currently underway this winter quarter.
