Professor Devon G Peňa, is an invited Panelist at Sixth Annual Conference on Native American Nutrition, Resurgence of Indigenous Foodways from September 10th to the 12th at the Mystic Lake Center in Prior Lake, Minnesota. (in partnership with The University of Minnesota Healthy Foods, Healthy Lives Institute and Center for Indigenous Health Research and Policy at Oklahoma State University).

Dr. Devon G Peña spoke about SNAP-ED, a nutrition education program based in Colorado, that provides support and funding for Indigenous communities in which they partnered with medical professionals from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and Centers for American Indian & Alaska Native Health.

A series of listening sessions took place to determine what current nutrition programs provide for these individuals and how SNAP-ED might increase support while engaging with other Indigenous serving organizations. The process took two phases with phase one being the listening session and phase two requesting proposals from those indigenous-serving organizations who participated in phase one.

Pilot funding requests for relevant eligible projects through September 2023 were submitted to three organizations and were awarded funding as promised.
