Dr. Devon G. Peña, Professor of American Ethnic Studies and Anthropology, has been appointed as a member of the authorship team for the "Nature and America's Cultural Heritage" chapter of the First National Nature Assessment (NNA1).

Created by an act of the U.S. Congress, the U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) is conducting the First National Nature Assessment (NNA1) to assess changes in nature as an aspect of global change. The NNA will take stock of U.S. lands, waters, wildlife, and the benefits they provide to our economy, health, climate, environmental justice, and national security.

The appointment letter noted Dr. Peña’s “…expertise and experience related to the rich ways that culture and environment intertwine and have done so for generations (via work on, e.g., acequia farming)…[and] would make an incredibly important addition to the team."
