Professor LaShawnDa Pittman recently received news that her collaborative project with the Catholic Community Services of Western Washington, Stress Reduction Intervention for African American Kinship Caregivers in Skipped-Generation Households, has been awarded a grant from the Cambia Health Foundation! This grant is awarded through the Foundation's Healthy and Connected Aging funding track.
The purpose of this grant is through the input of established kinship community members and data-driven research, this project seeks to develop an intervention that addresses financial hardship, parenting challenges, and daily stressors experienced by Black kinship caregivers in skipped-generation households. Interventions will increase caregivers' utilization of informal and formal financial resources and give them the tools they need to overcome both the challenges of fulfilling their grandchildren's developmental needs and the daily stressors unique to their families. A solid structure for this research work has already been established, so with this grant, they will be able to move the project forward through fruition.
