In the Spring 2025 College of Arts & Sciences Stories, Professor Emeritus Tetsuden Kashima's gift story is featured on LinkedIn. The post can be found here, The Long Journey Home Challenge | University of Washington - College of Arts & Sciences, and to learn more about Professor Kashima's legacy, follow this link The Long Journey Home Challenge.

Professor Tetsuden Kashima spent his academic career advocating for the Asian American and Pacific Islander community and the Nikkei students who were forced to leave the University of Washington and report to internment camps during World War II. His work paved the way for the UW’s Long Journey Home ceremony—and inspired other colleges to commit to justice and reconciliation for their Nikkei students, too.

To celebrate and honor Dr. Tetsuden "Tets" Kashima’s lifelong dedication to the Japanese American and the larger Pacific Islander and Asian community and the UW Department of American Ethnic Studies (AES), Allen Shimada invites you to join him in his effort to raise $100,000 for the endowed program support fund called "The Long Journey Home..." Endowed Program Support Fund in Honor of Professor Tetsuden Kashima for the Department of American Ethnic Studies.

This fund will perpetually provide broad support to the Department, enabling it to continue expanding its justice-based education opportunities and fostering the next generation of influential scholars and activists.
