Course Description

Overview of Chicano literature focusing on 20^th century works. After a general introduction to the socio-historical background in which the literary phenomena have unfolded, representative examples of the various genres making-up the general body of Chicana/o literature will be closely examined: theatre, poetry, and narrative (short story and novel).  Authors to be studied include Alurista, Cisneros, Herrera, Hinojosa-Smith, Chávez, Lucero, Montoya, Rivera, Salinas, Valdez.
