Overview of contemporary Chicano fiction focusing on 20th century canonical novels.  A general background regarding the socio-historical context of Chicano literature, as well as the development of the genre, will be presented at the beginning of the course.  Later, the discussions will focus on the specific features of each text. Authors studied include O. Z. Acosta, A. Castillo, S. Cisneros, D. Chávez, R. Hinojosa-Smith, A. Islas, T. Rivera, and J. A. Villarreal.

Catalog Description:
Examines nineteenth- and early twentieth-century fiction, as well as contemporary works in attempts to trace the development of Chicano fiction in the proper historical trajectory. Taught in English.
